Anne de Graft Johnson

I am an architect by discipline and am an academic. Both in my academic and my professional practice I have been committed to disseminating inclusive practice and process. I have been very active within the workplace in promoting race equality, challenging structural and attitudinal discrimination. I have authored commissioned reports as well as papers which address equality and diversity and put forward strategic recommendations.
I am a director of Junction 3 Community Interest Company which works on social and community empowerment and engagement to improve the environment in the areas close to Junction 3 of the M32. I am also on the management committee of a housing association.
Before being appointed a Bristol Race Equality Commissioner I was a member of the Bristol Race Equality Manifesto Steering group and then an Interim Race Equality Commissioner. I have actively contributed to the work in setting up a formally constituted Commission as well as continuing to engage with public sector organisations in the push to achieve more inclusive structures.
I have been active as a coordinator of my university’s BME and Women’s Staff Forums.
I am versed in strategic moves to assist in changing the paradigm as well as being willing to call out and challenge discriminatory practice and put forward constructive recommendations.
