Nick Young

Commissioner

Nick Young is a theatre maker and arts manager who has lived and worked in Bristol since 2004. He was born in South Africa, and spent his youth growing up in Zimababwe, Ethiopia, and the UK, as well as Cape Town where he still has family and visits regularly.
Since moving to Bristol Nick has worked as a professional theatre director, actor & writer; arts manager & facilitator; as well as teaching at FE and HE level in schools and institutions across the city and region. He has been the Creative Director at Creative Youth Network since 2005 helping to write and shape the creative vision and strategy for the organisation and the young people of Bristol. Nick is a member of the DIY Arts Network and sits on the city’s Cultural Strategy Steering Group who are working to create a cohesive and ambitious plan for the future of arts and culture in Bristol that embraces everyone. At the heart of all of this work is a desire to see greater participation and diversity for the good of both the city and the industries within it.
Nick is an active member of his local community in Easton where his children go to school. He is a passionate believer in the enhanced quality of life that equality and diversity bring. The commission is one tool of many that will need to be deployed to achieve that aim, and he is pleased to be able to actively work towards it.
