Veron Dowdy

Vice Chair

Born in the 60’s and Grew up in London (Hackney) Veron started in voluntary sector in 1986 working with young homeless. For the next 17 years he worked for various charitable organisations among other things covering: Youth offending, Alcohol addiction, youth homelessness, housing management, income management and floating support.

In 2000 he joined Haringey Council where he spent the next 13 years managing multi-disciplined services providing essential 24/7 cover including: Out of hours emergency repairs, Homelessness, Social services, Noise nuisance CCTV and Tele care solutions.
In 2015 he moved to Bristol and worked 9 months with award winning 1625 Independent People. Working with young people helping to reduce their housing cost arrears.
In October 2015 he joined SARI as Assistant Director where he worked tirelessly in the fight against Racism and Inequality providing advocacy and support services to clients. Also strategic policy and operational support, advice and training too many of the cities agencies and services until August 2017.

He has continued to be active in the city giving his time and expertise to things he is passionate about. He is currently part of the planning group for the 100 Black Men in the Room (together as one) Bristol a group that was set up to highlight and challenge inequality in the city. He has been a Bristol IAG (Independent Police Advisory Group) member for the last 2 years and has recently taken the role as chair of Avon Fire and Rescue D.I.C.E ( Diversity,Inclusion,Cohesion and Equalities) board and has also been chosen as one of Bristol’s 12 Commissioners for Race Equality.
